When is it Time to Replace Your AC Unit?
In the Charlotte area, we know at Integrity Heating and Cooling that summers can be steaming hot — and even the spring weather can be warm enough to need air conditioning. It’s important to be familiar with the signs of your AC unit aging or failing so that you can replace the system before you’re faced with an overheated home in the middle of the summer. Here are some indicators that display when it’s time to consider AC unit replacement:
Your AC Unit is a Decade Old — or Older
If the air conditioner is a decade old, it may need more frequent repairs and more care overall. When an air conditioner is properly cared for, it can last around 15 years. However, if your decade-old AC unit needs a major repair it often makes more financial sense to replace it instead. Our team at Integrity Heating & Cooling is made up of home comfort specialists who can advise you if you’re dealing with an old AC unit like this.
Your AC Unit Isn’t Energy Efficient
If your AC unit is not energy efficient, your monthly energy bills can be pretty high. Over time this can cost more than a new (more efficient) AC unit would. It’s best to look for an AC unit with a SEER rating of 14.5, that’s the ENERGY STAR minimum for great energy efficiency. Integrity Heating & Cooling offers Trane and Lennox brand systems that start at 14.5 and go up all the way up to a super-energy efficient 22 SEER rating.
Your Home Just Doesn’t Feel Comfortable
Is it a struggle to get the home cool? If you feel as if you’re constantly adjusting the thermostat to try to cool your home down, it might be time to consider a new air conditioning system. A slow and sluggish air conditioning system is usually in need of major repair or is coming to the end of its lifespan. Replacement now will allow you to stay more comfortable in the home with being able to reduce your energy bills as well.
