Is There a Difference Between HVAC and Air Conditioning?

We all know that air conditioning cools us down, but what about HVAC? You may have heard this term used before, but what exactly is it and how does it differ from basic air conditioning? Here is some basic information about these systems.

HVAC Has AC in It

HVAC stands for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning. In most parts of the country, including the area around Charlotte and Denver, NC, most residents have both heaters and air conditioners in their homes. HVAC encompasses the whole system while AC is generally used to talk about the cooling part. That being said, people sometimes use the term HVAC when discussing air conditioners, but it wouldn’t necessarily work the other way. This would be the case if a window AC is used, for example, as an independent cooling device.

How They’re Connected

With central air, the ventilation system in the house is used for both heating and cooling needs. A blower that’s connected to the vents is used to push the heated or cooled air throughout the home. When the blower isn’t working, both the air conditioner and the heater can be affected. At Integrity Heating & Cooling, we offer repair services if anyone in Charlotte is experiencing such an issue.

One common component in some systems is the heat pump. This unit controls both heating and cooling, which is why sometimes an AC can be referred to as an HVAC system.
